End of year details and updates

By: Urs Cunningham | Posted Wednesday December 6, 2017

Our Year 6 Graduation is being held this Friday (8th Dec) and now looks quite different from our planned event, as a result of including students in with the planning. Those involved in this event have been given the details in separate emails.

Learning Celebration

On Tuesday 12th December we have our Learning Celebration in the hall. This will run from 1:45 - 2:50pm. The outline for the celebration is as follows:

1:45 - 1:50 Parents and whanau meet in the hall; greeting and introduction from several students.

1:50 - 2:15 Learning expo in the hubs: students showcase their inquiry learning from the last few weeks. Parents and whanau encouraged to move around the school so students can all share their learning. Remember to bring $5 if you would like to buy a Te Rito sustainability bag; this links to their inquiry learning and will be part of the expo.

2:25 - 2:45  Back in the hall: Amesbury Awesomeness award for each hub. Farewell year 6 leavers, other students who we know are leaving at the end of the year and any staff who are leaving.

2:50 Final farewell

The Learning Celebration will be the main awards event; there will not be a separate prize giving event on the final day, as there has been in previous years.

End of year reports

End of year reports for all Year 4, 5 and 6 students will go live on ALF on Wednesday 13th December. An article will be sent out to remind parents about this, along with information to help clarify details in the report. Students who are in Years 0-3 will be on the anniversary reporting system, and thus receive their mid year and end of year reports according to their anniversary date.

Whole school fun day

Our final day of school is on Thursday 14th December. Originally this was planned as a whole school water play day; this event last year was very successful and a lovely way to end the school year. However, given our recent beautiful weather and subsequent water concerns, we have changed this to a whole school fun day. Children are invited to dress in their own clothes on this last day of school.  No uniform is required to be worn.

Students will begin the day in whanau groups, and will then move into a school-wide activities time, where children can choose from a wide range of inside and outside activities from bike riding and giant chess to table tennis and art. Students will be able to move freely between the various choices, interacting with lots of different children across the school.

Lunch will be a little earlier than usual, with the whole school meeting for a picnic lunch in the central courtyard. A sausage sizzle will be running, with all children able to have sausages (including vegetarian and gluten free) if they wish to. We do ask children to still bring some lunch to supplement their sausage, as lots of play can make you hungry! For a dessert treat ice blocks will be available for students, if they would like one. No money is needed for the sausages or ice blocks - the school will be providing them free of charge.

School will then close for the year at 1pm. Kelly Club will begin at 1pm for those children heading to After School Care.

If you have any questions about any of these events, please contact your child's whanau teacher.

We thank you all for your ongoing support for the school; it's been a busy and exciting year and we have all thoroughly enjoyed it. Have a lovely summer break with your whanau and we look forward to seeing you all again in the new year.

Warm regards,

The Amesbury Team
