Our Share & Celebrate events are a time to acknowledge and celebrate students who have been noticed doing something great. This can be for anything from an act of kindness, to great efforts in learning or taking care of the environment. If you have fabulous things your tamariki have been doing outside of school that you would like to share and celebrate, please email the details to your child's whānau teacher.
Here are the fabulous people who were celebrated this week:
Leo Y, Niharika, Alex Z, & Durrah: The four of you chose to do your mihi in front of our kura (school) as part of the Mihi Whakatau recently.
It was an extra special one for Alex, Durrah & Leo, as this was their last chance to say their mihi at Amesbury School. We were impressed with your confidence and ability to quickly correct the pronunciation of one of the kupu (word) that day and how you let the words roll off your arero (tongue) smoothly. Mīharo (amazing).
Sophronia: You constantly work to make our kura a tidy and safe place to be, looking out for friends and for our environment. You have been picking up litter across the school, and last week you found Shammah’s croc when it blew away. He was so happy to have it back. Tēnā koe for looking after our school so well.
Andy X, John, Hanson, Kyle, and Jaden W: Our Amesbury team participated in the NZ Chess Federation National Interschool Finals on 28th & 29th of September. They won 15th place out of 24 teams.
The same team played in the Chess Power Team National Final on 26th October. The boys did well and won 7th place out of 23 teams from all over the country.
On 27th October, Andy Xie and John Hao participated in the Chess Power Champions Trophy. They were placed 6th and 7th, respectively, out of 95 players from all over NZ. Ka pai, well done!
Adi, Josh H, Nia, Jade, Caelyn, Junyi, Angela W, Ire: 6 weeks ago all Year 6 students who are taking Speech & Drama lessons were given the task of memorising the scripts of their Christmas plays.
Congratulations to all of you for your hard work and dedication! Memorising your lines is no easy task, and you’ve all shown fantastic commitment in learning your scripts. Your attention to detail and willingness to practise have truly paid off. It’s inspiring to see each of you bring your characters to life with such confidence. Keep up the great work—your effort and enthusiasm are really shining through!
Iyaan: You have been a good leader and friend in Māwhero. It’s great to see you taking your learning seriously, taking care of the hub, and when necessary communicating needs to teachers.
Ariana: Over the past week Ariana has been extra helpful, taking responsibility to ask the teacher if they need any help and taking action by herself e.g., moving furniture.
Manashyu: You have been working hard during literacy and math time. Well done for staying on task and showing good listening ears.
Leo B: Leo, you have been working hard at forming your letters during handwriting. Ka pai, well done!
Kevin: You have been working very hard on your handwriting! You have practising your letter formation even outside of handwriting and making your writing as neat as possible. Amazing work Kevin, you should be very proud!
Inaya: You have been fantastic in literacy this term! You have shown amazing concentration and eagerness in your spelling, reading and writing. Keep up this amazing hard work, ka pai!
We also celebrated all of the students who sat ICAS exams. There were over 40 students across the 4 subjects, Digital Technology, Science, Maths and English. All of our students did well as they are difficult exams aimed to challenge the students, we had a number of students who received merit and credit results.
A huge congratulations to Jayden W, Hanson, Zachary, Aanya, Yiqi, John and Adam C who all received Distinction certificates in one or more subjects!
Well done to all of our outstanding ākonga . Super work sharing, leading, focusing, achieving, and helping around our kura (school) ku, and also achieving fabulous things outside of school as well. Ka pai te mahi, well done.
