Amesbury School turns 10 years old - come and celebrate with us!

The anniversary celebration will take place on Friday 4th February. We will do some fun celebration things during the day at school, and our community celebration will be in the evening from 5:30 - 7pm. We will hold a smaller gathering of staff and people directly involved with establishing the school ten years ago a little earlier in the afternoon, where we can acknowledge and celebrate key people involved. We will then have a wider community celebration outside in the school grounds.

Our community celebration will be an informal event and a chance to gather as a community - something we have not been able to do for a considerable time. There will be a variety of activities around the school grounds, and it will be a lovely chance to spend a (hopefully) sunny evening with whānau and friends in the school community.

This event will look a little different from our previous community events in order to ensure the health and safety of everyone whilst Covid-19 is still a significant risk. Here are the key details:

- Vaccination passes will be required for everyone over 12 years and three months. This event is a social gathering and is not directly related to learning at school. There will be staff based around the school boundary who will scan your passes as you come in.

- There will be a number of fun activities available, such as a bouncy castle, a range of giant games (giant chess, giant dominoes, giant Connect 4), sporting equipment out to use, such as basketballs, footballs, netballs, cricket equipment, and our parachute. Come along and start a game, maybe see if adults can take on our energetic tamariki. Please note that all appropriate safety procedures, including appropriate tethering, will be followed for the bouncy castle.

- Live music from Phil (our guitar teacher) and his band.

- We invite families to bring a picnic or some traditional Kiwi Friday fish 'n' chips, and come and hang out for the evening.

- As we are looking to take precautions around Covid-19, we will not have shared kai (food) at our celebration. Instead, there will be a Mr Whippy ice cream van onsite to offer all people at the event an ice cream (no money required). We figure it is not a birthday party without ice cream!

We are really happy that we can finally gather together as a community, and we hope to see many of you there. We would also like to put out a general invitation to all past students and whānau to come along - we’d love to see you.

Please note that this is planned as an informal outdoor event. If the weather looks to be very poor we will postpone and run it again as soon as possible. We will also need to remain flexible in the event of changes in our Covid traffic light system.

Ngā mihi, the Amesbury team.
