Northern Zone Athletics

Firstly, a huge congratulations to all the students who competed at Northern Zone Athletics. We were very impressed with your focus, your determination, and the outstanding effort you put into each event. We are so proud of you! Through your sportsmanship and dedication, you showed the true meaning of being a sportsperson.

Your behaviour while awaiting your events in the stands was also exemplary. We especially noticed your dedication to being kaitiakitanga (guardians of our environment). When we left at the end of the day, there was no Amesbury rubbish to be seen. Well done!

While expecting rain, the weather surprised us by holding off until the very last long distance events, when it started drizzling a bit heavier.

It was amazing to see how Liam H impressively dashed past his competitors in the last stretch of the Year 5 boys 800m event from being 5th to finishing in 2nd place!

Students who finished in the top three for their events move on to the Interzone competition which will be held on Tuesday 17 November at Newtown Park. We have 5 athletes who are progressing on.

Vortex Year 4 Girls - Emily G (3rd)

Vortex Year 5 Boys - Skieff P (3rd)

Long Jump Year 5 Boys - Skieff P (1st)

Long Jump Year 5 Girls - Ciara A (3rd)

800m Year 6 Girls - Felicity G (3rd)

800m Year 5 Boys - Liam H (2nd)

All the best, team.

Finally, thank you to all the adults who made the day successful. We really appreciate the various ways that you supported us, such as providing transport, helping out at long jump and showing enthusiasm for the excellent performances both by your child and by other children. A big thank you to Jared, our student teacher,  who spent the whole day helping out at long jump. We are very grateful.
