The Reading for Pizza challenge is up and running throughout the school, Scholastic Book Club brochures are coming home this week... and to top it off we have an author visit coming up.
It's fabulous to see so much reading for fun taking place around the school, and it's a great when it can get recognised with free pizza. Each time a child reads a book they get their pizza wheel clicked and when it is full they can redeem it for a free healthy child-sized pizza from Hell Pizza.
After not having enough Scholastic Book Club brochures last time we have made sure that there is enough for every child to bring one home! You don't have to order anything but if you would like to, do it online by visiting mybookclub.scholastic.co.nz - no need to return any orders or money to school. Ordering will be open until 27th August and books will be sent to school and then distributed.
Avril McDonald, award winning London-based NZ author of The Feel Brave Series of Books is on a NZ book tour and we are pleased to let you know that she will be here at school on 23 August at 1.30pm. She was interviewed on morning tv by Duncan Garner which you can view here.
The Feel Brave Series of books aim to help children manage tough emotions and reach their potential. Each book tells a story about a real life situation that children may face, and offers a really simple solution to cope with it. Children fall in love with Wolfgang and his friends who subtly help to show them simple strategies to deal with situations such as: Self-Confidence, Anxiety; Fears, Change, Loss; Grief and Worries; Calming Down. Clinical psychologists give her work outstanding endorsements citing it as being “based on sound psychological research that really resonates with children”.
Avril will be telling the Feel Brave stories and will demonstrate fun exercises and games that help build positive emotional health. If any parents would like to come along, including to a 15minute pre-session please email Rachel at [email protected] to register your interest.
The books are available for purchase and will be signed and dedicated on the day and given to the children. If you would like to order any, you can pay online and return the attached order form to the library by 22nd August . You can find out more information on the books and Avril here: www.feelbrave.com.
